Bordeaux is a city in south-western France, located near the Atlantic coast, prefecture of the Gironde department and chief town of the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It is the capital of ancient Guyenne and part of Gascony's cultural and linguistic, Bordeaux is located on the edge of the Landes de Gascogne.
The city is known throughout the world for Bordeaux wines and the Bordeaux vineyards, especially since the eighteenth century, which was a true golden age.
In June 2007, part of the city, the Port of the Moon (Port de la Lune), was inscribed on the World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee, designated by the UNESCO General Assembly.
The city is crossed by the Garonne. It is a port accessible to ocean-going ships, especially used by large cruise ships. The Port of the Moon is used mainly for tourist activity.
